Plumbing installation covers new work, from a single relocated sink to a new bathroom, kitchen or accessory dwelling. It is planned work, so we start with a walkthrough, a scope and a written price. If something is leaking now, call our emergency line instead and we will schedule the installation later.
The best time to talk to a plumber is before demolition. Pipe routes, drain slope and vent paths decide what fits, and they are much cheaper to settle on paper than inside finished walls.
What we install
- New bathrooms, including toilet, sink, tub or shower and vents.
- Kitchen sinks, dishwasher hookups and disposal connections.
- Laundry connections and washer boxes.
- Water lines and shutoffs for new appliances such as ice makers.
- Gas lines to ranges, dryers and water heaters, where code and licensing allow.
- Hose bibs, outdoor sinks and irrigation tie-ins.
Rough-in, then finish
| Stage | What happens | When |
|---|---|---|
| Rough-in | Drain, vent and supply lines go into open walls and floors, and are pressure tested | Before drywall |
| Inspection | City inspects rough-in work where a permit applies | Before walls close |
| Finish | Fixtures, faucets and trim are set and tested | After drywall and tile |
| Final | Final inspection and handoff of shutoff locations | Project end |
A permit is often required for new plumbing. The City of Port Hueneme Building and Safety Division at 250 N Ventura Road issues permits through an online system and can be reached at 805-986-6512. We explain what we are installing so you can ask the right questions, and we schedule inspections around the work.
Code and state rules that affect an installation
The California Plumbing Code is published by IAPMO as part of Title 24, and the 2025 cycle took effect January 1, 2026. State law also sets fixture rules. SB 407 required noncompliant fixtures in older single-family homes to be replaced by January 1, 2017, and it ties replacement to permitted alterations. Water heaters must be braced or strapped under Health and Safety Code section 19211.
We install to the code in force and use fixtures that meet current flow limits. If you are remodeling a house built before 1994, expect to upgrade older fixtures as part of the project.
What affects the price of plumbing installation
Installation prices vary widely. These are the factors that drive them.
Number and type of fixtures
A single sink is a smaller job than a full bath with a shower.
Distance from existing lines
Longer runs to drain, vent and supply mean more pipe and labor.
Floor and wall type
Slab floors, second stories and finished walls change how we route pipes.
Fixtures supplied
Fixtures you supply or we supply change the materials cost.
Permits and inspections
Permit fees follow the city fee schedule and inspections affect timing.
Insurance does not pay for planned improvements. If a remodel follows a covered loss, plan the two as separate items.
You get a clear price before work starts. Call (805) 249-7135 to schedule a walkthrough.
Starting a remodel or addition?
Call and tell us the rooms involved. We schedule a walkthrough and give you a written price before the work.
Hiring a plumber for installation
The Contractors State License Board says work needing a building permit or costing $1,000 or more in labor and materials must be done by a licensed contractor. Its C-36 plumbing classification covers water, drain and gas piping and water-heating equipment. Check any contractor on the state license lookup, and ask for a written scope. Contractors working in Port Hueneme also need a city business license.
